Produce Prints

Ew, not very nice looking at this point!
Every now and then I try my hand at screen printing. My screens are whatever fabric I had on hand, painted with screen filler, in embroidery hoops. I recently got a set of colored inks (had only used black and red before) and tried them out for the first time today, printing on muslin produce bags. The colors look pretty garish right out of the jar, but I had some fun mixing them together on the screens.
I'm happy with how the red and blue mixed and came through onto the fabric.

Progression: The colors mixed to a pretty uniform purplish color, and I added a bit more red to the center each time.

I used some of the muddy color left from the first ones together with more blue, some yellow and white for the next design.

Grayish garlic.
I like how the first print almost has a watercolor-like look. After that the color gets pretty uniform.
Garlic progression.

Yellow, blue, and white to make a good pea-green.

Pea vine!

Ode to Paperwork

What's this, that causes, without fail,
My blood pressure to rise?
Nauseates, keeps me from sleep,
Confuses, angers, terrifies?

Its neat, type-written pages,
So innocent appear,
It will only take a minute, right?
Where is the cause for fear?

But oh! The ambiguity!
I think I'm going to cry!
The intelligence I thought I had,
Has left me high and dry!

My name (my name!) I've written wrong,
Oh why can I not think?
If only it were pencil,
And not this bold black ink!

Lines one through seven went alright,
Without too much frustration.
Line eight's a doozy and bids me search,
For some long-numbered publication.

Now for a lengthy guessing game,
Of "Does this apply to me?"
Put YES or NO or leave it blank,
And pretend I didn't see.

Line seven hundred forty-A,
In perfect legalese,
Asks the state of my finances,
And if my cat has fleas.

Attach the proper documents,
To prove I'm really me,
Paperclip -"no staples please"-
To page one hundred twenty-three.

Buried here in paperwork,
I still can't understand,
I now have just one question more:

Can someone hold my hand?

Slackers.

We were meant to be mulching the garden,
but it was hot.
Mom was away.
We had a bag of chocolate-covered doughnuts.

We trampled out a spot in the middle of a patch of tall yellow flowers, and poured ourselves some milk.
We knew how to party.

Groundhog's Day Cake

How to explain...

For one reason or another, Groundhog's Day has gained significance in our house. Years ago my dad asked me to make a groundhog card, and every year when we fail to get all our Christmas cards and letters written or sent someone will say, "Well, we can always send a Groundhog's Day card.... or a belated Groundhog's Day card..." (Yeah, we're not great at keeping up correspondence.) Anyway, it's become a running joke- with Groundhog's Day Eve and everything- and this year my little brother T. and I decided to celebrate with a cake.
